Domain Registration Service

OATs provides Domain Registration services in addition to our website building packages. You can provide your own domain name by registering it with one of several Registrars. We currently recommend GoDaddy.com or Register.com

We currently use GoDaddy or Register.com as the registrar. (We may use other services as available.) The account we setup will be registered to you / your business and you will be billed directly by the Registrar for renewals, etc.. Your initial cost will include the registration fee plus our setup charge. Note that registration fees vary depending on the length of the registration contract, the extension you choose (or as available), and the added services you include (privacy and security features). Your Domain Name is the website's internet address that customers will browse to - "YourBiz.net", for example. The name consists of two parts. The first part "YourBiz" is the unique address for your website. Because so many addresses have already been registered, it may take some careful thought and more than try to find a name that suits you and is available for registration. Most simple names have already been taken, so you may need to select a longer name in order to find one that works.

The second part of the name is known as the "extension". There are many extension types: business extensions, organizational extensions, educational extensions, government extensions, etc. You will need a business extension for this site. Currently these include four choices: ".com", ".net", ".biz", ".co". In searching for your website domain name we will try each of these (in the order listed) with your unique address until we find one that is available for registration. We may also try small variations on your preferred name to find some available options if necessary.

OATs provides registration and setup of hosting services through a hosting agent. You can provide your own hosting service. (Please check with us for compatibility with our website programming.) We currently recommend InMotion Hosting.

InMotion Hosting (not OATs) will be your hosting service agent, and your registration and contract for service will be with inMotion Hosting. Your initial cost will include our setup charge plus the cost of hosting services. A hosting service provides the physical location and equipment where you website files reside. You can provide your own hosting on your own equipment. Requirements for setting up your own service are considerable and can be complex. Consult you local technical advisor for more information.

Alternately, you can use a service provider. There are many providers and prices vary widely. We currently use InMotion Hosting for our hosting service. The account we setup will be registered to you / your business and you will be billed directly by the InMotion Hosting for renewals, etc..
